Up to 60 minutes of additional delay on westbound US-6
SALT LAKE CITY (Sept. 3, 2026) — The Utah Department of Transportation is urging drivers to plan ahead for travel delay increases on Interstate 15 and U.S. Route 6 due to Labor Day weekend travel.
UDOT traffic engineers expect westbound US-6 to see the worst delays next week, with additional travel delays of up to 60 minutes.
Drivers traveling Friday, Sept. 4, can expect the following delays:
- Southbound I-15 from Spanish Fork to Nephi: Up to 30 minutes of additional delay between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m., with peak delays occurring at 3 p.m.
- Eastbound US-6 from Spanish Fork to Soldier Summit: Up to 10 minutes of additional delay between noon and 10 p.m., with peak delays at 7 p.m. Drivers should also expect a construction project with lane closures near Thistle Junction (the intersection of US-6 and US-89).
Return travelers on Monday, Sept. 7, can expect the following delays:
- Westbound US-6 from Soldier Summit to Spanish Fork: Up to 40 minutes of additional delay between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., with peak delays occurring at 2 p.m. Drivers should also expect a construction project with lane closures near Thistle Junction (the intersection of US-6 and US-89).
- Northbound I-15 from Nephi to Spanish Fork: Up to 60 minutes of additional delay between noon and 7 p.m., with peak delays occurring at 5 p.m.
Across the state, most UDOT projects will suspend construction and open all lanes to traffic to help reduce delays over the holiday weekend. However, certain existing lane restrictions or traffic shifts, including work zones in Spanish Fork Canyon and Provo Canyon, will remain in place as needed to protect the work zone and ensure safety.
At the US-189 and SR-114 intersection in Provo Canyon, drivers should expect congestion and longer left-turn queues on Friday, Sept. 4 and Saturday, Sept. 5 due to the Midway Swiss Days. For more information about Swiss Days, visit Midway City’s Swiss Days website.
